12" JL Audio W0 with Sony XM-752X
wired to the stock Bose Headunit

Q: My Maxima has the BOSE audio system and I would like to add more bass to it. Is there any way to add a subwoofer to this audio system?

A: Modified from the How to on the MaxFaqs, courtesy of Russell Zotz:

I hooked up my sub to the stock BOSE system, and here is how I did it...  First this is what we have....

           1 JL Audio 12 inch W0 Sub

300 Watt Mosfet Amp (Sony Brand) Bridged

           Monster Cables

*PAC model # SNI-35* (This is what converts the signal to from the Bose)

1.         We ran the power cable from the battery (Not connecting it to the battery till last, through the firewall on the right side of clutch slave cylinder, running through the wheel well behind the plastic panels.

2.         After pushing it through the firewall and pulling it out from under the dash (near the dead pedal)....

3.         Remove the kick panel (where your feet sometimes hit, they just pop off)... After popping the front one off and the back one off pull the carpet up and then start sticking the power cable down through the floor of the carpet against the sidewall.

4.         before going back to the rear door one, pop the plastic wall piece that is around the seatbelt.. the lower portion only... it just pops out. Slide the power cable down that... and pop it back in....

5.         Pull the carpet up in the back and run the cable there also.....

6.         You also need to remove the back bottom seat cushion... to do this, you must get in the car, and there are two latches on the front lower parts of the seat.... they're white. Pull it out, and lift the seat. The seat will pull up, and slide out... move it out of the way.

7.         Next, you see some wires going towards the trunk in a 45 degree angle from the door.. you must follow the same route with your power wire.....

8.         Get into the trunk and pull the left back tab on the top out... which will allow you to move the wall out of your way for a short period... you will see a hole in the bottom left corner that peeks into the back seat area.... where the wires are going through.....stick the wire right through that hole with the others..... after getting all the wire into the trunk area... go back and put the carpet back down and snap those pieces back into place... and put the backseat back in also.... same way it came out... but remember to put the seat belts back where they were...:)

9.         Next after getting everything snapped back in... the wire is in your trunk.... you will see the lining on the back wall where the pass thru is located in the middle of all this.. I would recommended sliding the wire around the plastic piece.

10.       Then hook it up to the amp.

11.       Now for the remote wires to let the amp know your Bose is turned on....

12.       Wrap the remote wire around the + connector underneath the black Bose speaker bottom.  (You could splice into the factory wiring, but I didn't want to tap anything that I didn't have to)

13.       When you turn on your Bose it powers the back amps on the Bose speakers which sends the 12v to the remote as well to turn on the amp..to the subs or crossover. (Note: You only have to hook the remote to one speaker..... )

14.       Now you need the PAC.... which you may be able to purchase from Circuit City.  I had to buy mine from a local Earmark because Circuit City does not carry the PACs anymore.  This box transforms the 1 ohm Bose signal to the normal ohm signal that most stereos use today to hook up amps, etc. It has 6 wires on it, 2 are brown (grounds), and you don't need to connect them to anything (I hid them behind the PAC which which I mounted to the deck using large worm clamps).  The other 4 are the ones you will need to connect to the rear speakers.  I only used 2 attached to the left speaker since I run my sub in mono.  You can either wrap the wires around the connectors on the speaker as mentioned for the remote, or you can tap into the wires for the left and right channels + & -.  The other end of the PAC are RCA female connectors which you will connect an RCA cable into to run your signal to the amp.

15.       There are 2 pots on the end of this box, you must have them turned all the way down, which will cause 0 signal to pass thru before turning the unit on...

16.       After hooking that up, go back to the battery and hook your power up...Also you are going to have to find a ground somewhere in the trunk to hook up to or make one..it should be grounded to pure metal, but do your best with what you have ;).

17.  Now you are all set..power the system up and see how she sounds..You will most likely hear nothing because the pots need to be turned up to your likeing.... Make sure the polarity is correct on the rear speakers... since the stock wiring is hard to tell we have to use your sense of hearing and make sure its hitting the right beat in phase.

After hooking the Sub up to the system and fine tuning it, it sounded awesome.
